The prophets hold a high place in Islam. To believe in all the prophets is one of the fundamental faiths that the Muslims are expected to follow. Allah Almighty has chosen these individuals for the guidance of the entire Muslim nation. These prophets were provided with divine revelations through angels. According to Islam, numerous prophets have been sent for the guidance of mankind. However, only a few of them have been mentioned in the Quran and we’ll try to share brief information about all prophets mentioned in the Quran.

Hazrat Adam (A.S):

He was not only the first prophet sent to the world but He (A.S.) was also the first human being. He (A.S) lived in Jannah with his wife Hawwa but when he disobeyed Allah Almighty, he was sent on Earth and this is how life on Earth started. Hazrat Adam (A.S) is one of the prophets that has been mentioned in Quran.

Hazrat Idris (A.S.):

He (A.S.) is the second prophet after Adam (A.S.). According to Islamic version, He is known as the mystic and philosopher. 

The Quran mentions Hazrat Idris A.S. as:

“He was a man of truth (and sincerity), (and) a prophet: And We raised him to a lofty station.”

[19: 56-57]

Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.):

Known as Abraham is different religions, he is called Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.) in Quran. There are a number of miracles associated with him in his entire life. Moreover, he is also known for building the Khana e Kaaba for the first time. Additionally, his sacrifice and love for Allah have been unmatchable, making him one of the important prophets in Islam.

Hazrat Ismael (A.S.):

He (A.S.) is the son of Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.). He was ready to sacrifice his life for Allah’s sake. Based on his sacrifice, the slaughtering of goats has been made a compulsory part of the Hajj.
Additionally, He (A.S.) has helped his father in preaching the right path to the nation.

Hazrat Ishaq (A.S.):

The name of Harat Ishaq (A.S.) has been mentioned 15 times in the Quran. He (A.S.) is another prophet who spent his entire life in bringing people back to the Allah Almighty and preaching what is right for them.

Hazrat Yunus (A.S):

Hazrat Yunus is another prophet who has been mentioned in the Quran. He is recognized as a prophet in the Jewish religion as well. However, as we are discussing the list of prophets in Quran, we’ll keep our focus on the Islamic perspective. In Islam, He (A.S) is known to have remained inside a fish. With the mercy of Allah Almighty, he got out of the fish, which is a miracle in itself.

Hazrat Daud (A.S):

The name of Hazrat Daud (A.S.) has been mentioned in the Quran at 16 different instances. Some of the attributes that have been associated with this prophet in Quran include knowledge and sound judgement. He (A.S.) is amongst one of the prophets who has been given the kingship and He has devoted most of his time in accomplishing this task.

Al-Yasa (A.S.):

The name of this prophet has been mentioned twice in the Quran. The Quran mentions Him as the “graced” and “amongst the elect ”. Apart from the mentioning of the prophet’s name is Quran, He has also been mentioned in the Bible.

Zu al-Kifl (A.S.)

Zu Al Kifl has been mentioned in the Bible and Quran as well. He (A.S.) is known to be a preacher in what today is Modern Iraq. In the Quran, He (A.S.) has been mentioned at two different instances.

Hazrat Yaqoob (A.S.):

The name of Hazrat yaqoob (A.S.) is mentioned in the Quran 16 times. He belongs to a family of prophets where his grandfather, father, son and uncle have all been bestowed with prophet hood and have been guaranteed high rewards thereafter.

Hazrat Yousaf (A.S.):

He (A.S)  was the son of  Hazrat Yaqoob (A.S.). Apart from just mentioning the name of this prophet in Quran, Allah Almighty bestowed Him with a favor of ending an entire surah in his name. The complete incident of his life has been mentioned in Surah Yousaf.

Hazrat Musa (A.S.):

He (A.S.) is a prophet and messenger in Quran whose name has been mentioned 135 times in Quran. Hazrat Musa (A.S.) is known as Moses in Judaism and Christianity. He spent his childhood in the castle of Pharaoh where he was brought up by Pharaoh’s wife.

Additionally, He (A.S.) was given the holy book of Torah to preach the people of his community about the rights and wrongs. He was accompanied by his brother Hazrat Haroon (A.S.) to help him in showing the right path to the masses.

Hazrat Haroon (A.S.):

He (A.S.) is one of the prophets of Allah Almighty. Apart from being the descendant of Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.), Hazrat Haroon (A.S.) is the brother of Hazrat Musa (A.S.). The information about the true religion and the punishment in case of non-compliance to Pharaoh was given by both the brothers in the status of the prophets. 

Hazrat Zakariyyā (A.S.):

The next prophet in the list of prophets in Quran is Hazrat Zakariyyā (A.S.). He was one of the righteous prophets that has been seen. One of the miracles that is associated with this pious sole is the birth of an offspring at quite an old age in odd circumstances. He (A.S.) was blessed with a son, Hazrat Yahya (A.S.).

Hazrat Ilyas (A.S.):

Hazrat Ilyas (A.S.) is also one of the prophets of Allah Almighty who has asked people to stop worshiping the idols and pray to Allah only.

In Quran it is mentioned,

“Peace be upon Elijah! This is how We reward those who do good. He is truly among our believing servants”


Hazrat Ayub (A.S.):

One of the other names of prophets in Quran is of Hazrat Ayub (A.S.). He was amongst the 25 prophets mentioned in Quran for their righteousness and strong belief in Allah Almighty. He was tested by Allah Almighty for a long period of time but his steadfastness in the harsh times made him the special messenger.

Hazrat Nooh (A.S.) in Quran:

The name of Hazrat Nooh (A.S.) has been mentioned in Quran as one of the prophets of Allah Almighty. He (A.S.) has been bestowed with a complete surah in his name i.e. Surah Nooh. He was ordered by Allah Almighty to take believers and a pair of different animals in a boat. Apart from that boat of believers, the rest of the community was destroyed by water by the Will of Allah.

Hazrat Hud (A.S.):

Hazrat Hud was the prophet for Aad. Aad was a wealthy community which started being arrogant and defying Allah Almighty. Despite the efforts from this prophet (A.S.), the community did not improve their condition and were ultimately destroyed by the Will of Allah. The entire episode has been mentioned in the eleventh chapter of Quran.

Hazrat Saleh (A.S.):

Hazrat Saleh is another chosen prophet in the history of mankind. He preached his tribe to believe in the oneness of Allah Almighty and be the part of the believers. There are a number of miracles associated with him.

Hazrat Shoaib (A.S.):

The meaning of the name Shoaib is to show the right path. He (A.S.) is another prophet whose name has been mentioned in the Quran 11 times. In Islam, he is known as “the eloquent preacher amongst the prophets”. 

Hazrat Isa (A.S.):

Hazrat Isa  (A.S.) and his life involves a number of miracles which did not only mesmerize his community rather they still hold an important place in the lives of all individuals. Some of his famous miracles include speaking from the cradle, creating birds from clay and many more. Additionally, he also had the healing power that would cure the ill.   

Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW):

Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) is the last prophet and messenger who has been sent to the mankind. Allah Almighty gave him the religion Islam to be preached on Earth. Moreover, the Quran has also been revealed to Him (SAWW). 

Apart from the complete chapter in Quran, there re various instances where Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) has been discussed with his name. There are various narrations where He (SAWW) has been referred to without using name. Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) has been sent as the blessings for every living being. He (SAWW) has shown us the ultimate right path to prosperity. He (SAWW) May Allah Almighty grant us strength to follow the path that he has shown to the Muslims.
